Leadership in Literacy: Developing a School-wide Partnership

Literacywith Peter Lancia

Augusta Civic Center

Successful schools develop when collaborative relationships among teachers, school leaders, families, and children are nurtured in response to common goals. Literacy is central to our work. It is woven throughout the curriculum and enables the development of thinking and communication in every learner.

In this workshop, we will look at the many factors involved in creating an effective school literacy initiative. These include:

  • Defining the roles of the principal, literacy specialist, and teachers.
  • Organizing structures for collaboration through professional learning communities
  • Providing frameworks that enable best practice throughout the school
  • Articulating a literacy vision, mission, and action steps for success

Participants will have time to reflect upon and begin to develop a literacy plan for their schools. Leadership teams are encouraged to attend.
