Demystifying Response to Intervention (RTI): Strategies from the Field

Presentations and Breakout Sessions

Keynote by Judy True

Augusta Civic Center

8:30 am - 3:00 pm

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a process that promotes early identification and targeted intervention for students who are experiencing difficulty meeting academic and/or behavioral standards. School districts have been working to develop and implement the RTI initiative over the last few years and a flurry of questions continues to arise: Which intervention count? What kinds of assessments can be used? How will this affect student learning? Will we have to change our instructional practices? Isn't this what we should have been doing all along?

In this practical workshop, educational consultant and former curriculum coordinator Judy True will provide an overview of the RTI initiative explaining what is and what is not expected under the law. Her presentation will be followed by breakout sessions during which educators from local schools will share successful models and strategies for intervention in their own schools. These include: intervention teams, coaching, analysis of assessment data, paperwork management, classroom applications, and school-wide protocols. Teams from schools and districts are encouraged to attend because there will be time to work on school specific plans. Participants are welcome to bring plans and materials they have been working on in order to share their experiences with others.

Don't miss this informative, hand-on workshop!

Breakout Sessions

We have a number of local districts that have signed up to offer breakout sessions. Additional districts are needed. If you are interested in participating as a breakout presenter, please contact John Brandt at info@maineascd.org.
